Generally tourists traveling to Italy are required to have a passport and a visa. However in case of EU citizens who travel to Italy as well as nationals from US, Canada, Japan, Australia, Brazil, New Zealand, Israel, etc. visa is not demanded unless they stay for over three months. Ones traveling to Italy for an extended period should urge on having an entry stamp.

Goods, meant for personal consumption and bought within EU, are held duty free in Italy. The customs regulations of Italy allow for specific quantities of cigarettes, spirits, wine, perfume, etc. and an overall limit of bringing in goods worth up to 176 euros.
